A New Look for the Front of The President's Lodgings

To make the borders outside Chapel and in front of the President's Lodgings more cohesive, we have planted a Box hedge using common box Buxus sempervirens. Pictured above illustrates how the border looked before we started work.

Having lifted the plants which would interfere with the new design, we then went about setting out a string and digging a trench along its length.

The box were bought in as 30/40 cm three year old bare root plants from Hedges Direct.

Making sure that the plants were well watered prior to planting, we left bundles to soak in water for at least 20 minutes.

At just over the halfway point the box were planted at 9 cms apart.

The end result included a box spiral planted in line with the border in front of Chapel.
